Not only Aaron Rodgers can get special treatment for his Achilles tendon. Read here to learn more!

Approximately 5 weeks ago Aaron Rodgers ruptured his Achilles tendon and flew from New York to California to have a "state of the art" procedure performed.  He underwent the PARS to midsubstance procedure by Arthrex.  Everyone is now shocked at his quick recovery, as he is already out of a boot and walking around in tennis shoes.  You may be wondering if this is normal.

Absolutely!  I was actually trained on the Arthrex PARS system in residency and it has become my go-to procedure for Achilles tendon ruptures.  It is very common for patients to be walking right away after surgery in a cam boot and back into a tennis shoe anywhere between 4-6 weeks after surgery.  Not only is the procedure minimally invasive and allows patients to get back on their feet faster, but you're trading a 8-12 inch long incision on the back of your leg for a 1 inch incision on the back of the ankle and two stab incisions on the heel.  You're also trading a 6-12 month recovery for a 2-4 month recovery.  In my experience, patients are much happier after this procedure versus the traditional procedure.

I always try to bring new techniques into my practice, especially if it is better for the patient.  Whether it is your Achilles tendon, a bunion, hammertoe, or plantar fasciitis, there are minimally invasive techniques for these problems which help you get back on your feet sooner.  Sometimes you don't have to travel across the country to have All-Star medical treatment... Just come see us in West Bloomfield at Precision Foot & Ankle Center!
